01/02/2002 Entry: "Last Year's Playlist."

I've returned from Baltimore for New Year's and am a little under the weather. I'll write about the trip—indeed about anything of substance, for that matter—as soon as I can.

Every year the Roommate and I pick a song for the New Year. I've only just now started thinking about it I'm not sure what I want it to be for this year. But I've worked out this instead...my month by month songlist for the year 2001. I don't know if there's a deeper meaning in it than that, but here it is:

January: "You're So Vain" Carly Simon
February: "Am I Loud Enough" Bis
March: "Cities In Dust" Siouxsie And The Banshees
April: "Beats at the Office" Bis
May: "Glamour and Pain" Joe Jackson
June: "Tear Me Down" Hedwig and the Angry Inch
July: "Frustration" Soft Cell
August: "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" Daft Punk
September: "Statue of Liberty" Laurie Anderson
October: "Not Ready Yet" the eels
November: "Unison" Bjork
December: "Man It's So Loud In Here" They Might Be Giants

if you were asking for votes for song of the year, not that you are, but if you were, I'm equally drawn to "Tear Me Down" and "Unison."

Which, upon a millisecond of reflection, is pretty funny.
