06/11/2004 Entry: "Written While Slightly Sweating."

Oh, Nearby Indian Restaurant, why do you torment me so? Your Sabzi Panchpuran lunch special is surely more oil and salt than I need in a day, yet so lovely and spicy; you've sent me running back to unpack the tissues from the moving boxes here in the office. Despite the gruff exterior of the surly man who takes my order, you seduce me with your low prices and reusable containers. Would that you were a thousand steps further from me! Perhaps then I might not have eaten there for three lunches this week. With yellow stained lips, I both praise and curse you, Nearby Indian Restaurant; leave me and my love handles in peace!

(Inspired, obliquely, by friends who react in interesting ways to Indian food....)

I'm partial to Shalimar near Jones and Ellis.

Sure it is in the Tenderloin, but they let you bring in your own beer and there's nothing quite like tranny-crack whores to liven up and otherwise boring trip to the Tenderloin.

The only problem I have with Mehfil it that it's always blistering hot in there. Nala if you are going to do Indian in the Tenderloin. Naan n' Curry is the only place to go. It rocks Shalimars world.

Ah, the tenderloin.

I remember my days there fondly, as I was nestled in the Tendernob, in a tinee-tiny appartment (read: bed was the floor in the closet). I would walk to the gym at 6 am, watching the trannies fall out of the bars, wasted-drunk.

*sigh*

Oh, the good old days.

I've been to Naan n' Curry too. Definite good eats.

Shalimar just has a special place in my heart. It was the first place I was ever taken to when I first visited the City in 1996 and I make an effort every time I come out for my yearly visit to stop there.

The Tenderloin... how I miss you so...

Say, isn't this Nearby Indian Restaurant 'twixt our offices -- a suitable meeting place for, oh, lunch?
