01/21/2005 Entry: "Putting Your Best Faces Forward."

facemorphs (51k image)

The thing I find most interesting about The Face Transformer are my reactions to the pictures—or rather, mostly my lack thereof. While I find the "Afro-Caribean" me pretty handsome, and the "Modigliani" me a nice painting, it's only the "Older Adult" photo that really makes me stop. Maybe that's because I know that in my lifetime I'll never be able to change my race, won't shift my gender identity, can't go back to looking like a child or a baby. But I will get old. I find myself looking at that image and wondering, is this the face I'll see in the mirror years from now? Will I mind that change? Or will I even notice the change?

I pointed out that one to The Boyfriend. "This is what you'll be waking up to in a few years. Just so you know." He seemed OK with the idea. I think that's a sign that he's a keeper.

(I will also confess to my own vanity: I debated about posting these because I really needed a haircut when I took the original photo. But if I'm going to post Apeman Casey, there's really no point in pretending to be proud, is there?)
